New: Little Red Lie (Games)

Little Red Lie 1.0

Device: iOS Universal
Category: Games
Price: $ 4.99, Version: 1.0 (iTunes)

Little Red Lie is a narrative-focused, interactive fiction experience that reduces the traditional nine-verb adventure game structure down to a single, context-dependent interaction: LIE.

Gameplay consists of navigating conversations and environments which will require you to lie to both others and yourself in order to secure your financial and personal future.

If you enjoy realistic and dramatic stories in a contemporary setting which deal with weighty issues of family, society and politics, Little Red Lie will offer a unique perspective into the subtle (and not-so-subtle) deceptions that shape our daily lives.

The Thursday Find – Portal Walk

Oh look, it’s Thursday. Time, as ever, is moving inexorably onwards. Soon the heat death of the universe will be upon us and then, finally, the content can stop being created. Not yet though. Not just yet.

Thursday is when we regale you with the Thursday Find. It’s the game we think you should be giving a go this week. If you only get one, then get this one. If you want more, then join us tomorrow when we list the five best games of the week. If there are five games worth mentioning that is.

As per ever you can click on the emboldened name of the game below to download it from the App Store. And if you think we’ve got this week’s find wrong, chuck your own suggestions at the bottom of the article.

Portal Walk

It’s a platformer. It’s set in a lot of dungeons. It’s got chunky chunk chunk pixel graphics. I mean, from that description you’re probably going to think this one is super tough. And you’re not going to be wrong.

Well, you sort of are. Because this isn’t a twitchy platformer like most of them on the App Store. It’s tough because the controls are a bit floatier than you’re going to be used to.

You’re not so much relying on split second reactions as you are having to modify your timing to fit in with the slightly old-fashioned rhythm of play.

It’s not perfect, that’s for sure, and there are some frustrating moments. But when…

Roll the dice on the new Game of Dice update

Joycity’s fantasy real-estate game, Game of Dice, is getting a huge update this week. The patch will add some thrilling new content to a game already rich in deep single-player and multiplayer play. Expect to find a new map, costumes, and some mechanical fixes when the update lands this week.

Players will have the chance to test their mettle in the all new Cursed Tower map. This new zone lets players use special Runes during each match. Of course, you’ll have plenty of opportunity to revisit older maps, too, thanks to the new “Map of the Day” feature. Starting this week, players will get to play a match in one previous seasonal map each day. It’s a great way to refresh your skills or try out past seasonal content you might have missed out on.

Game of Dice’s board is getting some improvements, as well. The new “Place Rune” block grants players a new property at random and a special skill for an existing property when they land on it. That’s a considerable perk — here’s hoping you roll your dice well.

You’ll find some quality of life fixes thrown into the mix, too. Hidden Cards are getting patched. You’ll now be able to attach Hidden Cards to different characters if they meet certain requirements. For the fashion forward amongst you, expect to see Lucy and Doria costume…

But if you want a mobile video game to set up next week for you, which one should you choose? Well, I say, why choose one when you can choose five? These five in fact. The five best games that came out on the App Store this week.

You can click on the emboldened names of the games below to grab them from the App Store. And if you think I’ve missed anything, make sure you stick your own suggestions in the comments at the bottom of the article. I’ll definitely read them.

Meshi Quest: Five-star Kitchen

A game about serving sushi. Well, that’s what it’s ostensibly about. It’s actually about getting really, really stressed and concerned and then messing everything up and ruining your fledgling restaurant empire. It’s a cooking-sim from Square Enix, and it’s actually really, really good.

New: Bottom of the 9th (Games)

Bottom of the 9th 1.0.1

Device: iOS iPhone
Category: Games
Price: $ 4.99, Version: 1.0.1 (iTunes)

Play the most exciting moment of baseball in this fast-paced dice and card game!

It’s a beautiful day here at the ballpark, and this game has been a squeaker! Everyone expected the league leaders to roll into town and easily defeat the home team. But the scrappy upstarts have played the game of their lives and managed to keep the score tied right until the end. Their fatigue is showing and now it’s their last chance. If the home team batters don’t score a run now, the visitors will be sure to win the game in extra innings. It all comes down to the Bottom of the 9th!

Will you lead the underdogs to victory? Or will you defend the league leaders’ unbroken winning streak?

Bottom of the 9th is a strategic 2-player baseball game played with cards and dice. This faithful adaptation brings the fast-paced fun of the tabletop game to your phone! Choose your lineup from a pool of players with different strengths and abilities, outsmart your opponent in the stare-down, then roll the dice to trigger the action.

Bottom of the 9th offers many ways to play:
• Compete in single player against a computer opponent (3 levels of difficulty)
• Pass and play on your device with a friend
• Challenge a friend to play online
• Find a worthy opponent in a ranked online match
• Organize a casual online exhibition game

The powerhouse visitors have six dynamite pitchers to choose from, including:
• Wake Louder throws a nasty knuckleball that can get a lost ball just into the edge of the strike zone.
• Southpaw Straw is a talented lefty pitcher with one dangerously effective (and illegal) spitball.
• Hurricane Patriss is a top notch reliever, and the only thing more hypnotic than his curveball is his voice.

Don’t count out the home team! They have a dozen batters, each with their own special powers, including:
• Mully Nomah can be devastating against the pitching team when runners are in scoring position. He can clobber a pitch and get those base runners home!
• Kerry Rumble has power behind her swing. She has the ability to crush the ball hard, at the cost of hitting lots of fouls. She just can’t resist taking a swing!
• K.C. Petty is truly a powerhouse when the chips are down. The more strikes he gets, the bigger he swings.
• Hannah Cait may look innocent, but when she’s in the zone she calls all the shots! This rookie’s level of control over her swing is the envy of many a veteran.

Both teams have access to two support characters who provide special abilities to one or both teams:
• Dice Dixon has no problem taking chances coming out from the dugout, benching batters and challenging umps!
• Doc Mullins is always looking after the health of the team, whether that means a more rested pitcher or more energized batters!

~~~ There’s nothing that’s quite like the thrill you feel in the Bottom of the 9th! ~~~
Bottom of the 9th is an officially licensed product of “Bottom of the 9th” from Greater Than Games and Dice Hate Me Games.
The best games on sale for iPhone and iPad right now – August 16th
Hello there. It’s Wednesday. So that’s probably good. Especially if you like the days of the week. I don’t like them. They are mean to me. I have to do things on them. What a life. What a silly, silly life.
Anyway, Wednesday is when we round up the best games that are on sale on the App Store at the moment. It’s a time-honoured tradition, and I’m not going to stop now just because people are screaming at me to get out of the building because it’s on fire.
As usual you can click on the emboldened names of the games below to download them from the App Store. And if you spot any exquisite deals that I might have missed, feel free to chuck them in the comments at the bottom of the article.
Tsuro – Free
A slick and polished board game adaptation that’s all about leading dragons around. It looks lovely, it plays brilliantly, and did I mention that it’s full of dragons? I hope I did, because that’s one of the game’s selling points. Or not selling. Because it’s free right now.
