High scores and secrets await in challenging tactical match-3 Six Match, for iOS and Android

Considering it’s one of the more prominent genres on mobile, you might think you know all about the match-3. But for every common approach to the genre, there might be an interesting twist, from the RPG hybrids like Puzzle Quest to the directional strategy of Swapperoo. Six Match is an equally interesting tale on the genre, hiding myriad mechanics beneath its simple and colorful veneer.

Six Match is the new game from Aaron Steed, developer of the puzzle roguelike Ending (iOS, Android), and like that game, Six Match is all about economy of movement. That title is both name and mechanic: you have six turns to make successful matches, six turns to maneuver your white tile into position and alter the grid, only ever six turns till game over.

Six Match

As much as Six Match is about matching and careful movement and planning ahead, it’s also about discovery. Nothing is ever explained to you; whether it’s coins, bombs, diamonds, or any other of its mechanics, you learn Six Match’s different icons and dangers and how to best ha…

Meteorfall is a quirky roguelike card battler headed to iOS and Android on January 25th

Meteorfall isn’t the first game to combine the card game with RPG elements and character building, but it might be the most charming. With its colorful art style and stylized Adventure Time-esque designs, Meteorfall promised a humorous approach to the subgenre when it launches later this month.

Choosing from four heroes ranging from the floppy-hatted rogue to the broadsword-wielding warrior, battles in Meteorfall are ones of decks and loot, as you draw actions, perks, and gear from your deck; each draw opens the door for new tactics and strategies against the charmingly grotesque enemies you’ll face. Powerful magic, special weapons, and more expand your deck as you progress through the game.

Meteorfall is slated to release on the App Store and Google Play on January 25th; for more details and screenshots, you can visit the Meteorfall site.

Solve visual programming puzzles when While True: Learn() comes to iOS and Android in 2018

Mobile is no stranger to programming-based puzzlers, from Zachtronics’ early SpaceChem to the charming Human Resource Machine. But outside of TIS-100, most are abstractions of the concept; While True: Learn() promises an interesting approach, focused on placing you in the chair of a machine learning specialist, when the game launches on mobile this year.

Acting with intent as a puzzle game and an educational tool, While True: Learn() presents you with problems themed around managing data and code for various tasks, and then gives you a toolbox of components to solve these logistical puzzles. It seems simple in execution – no actual coding, just dragging and connecting decision trees and garabage bin folders and speed modifiers – but tricky in finding solutions, as more data and more complex outcomes are introduced.

While True: Learn() plans to cover the history of programming, progressing from before the 1970s till modern times, with different tools and tasks based on the time period. Solve puzzles, and you’ll earn money, letting you remain a freelancer or expand into your own start-up.

While True: Learn() is slated to release on iOS and Android “later in 2018”; a PC pre-alpha demo is currently available through the While True website

Face your foes head on in Carmageddon: Crashers, available on iOS and Android

It’ll be time to turn up the heat and burn major rubber for all long-time Carmageddon fans out there, as the destructive racer squeals its way onto iOS and Android from today. A respectful reinvention of the controversial car franchise, Carmageddon: Crashers aims to be the antidote to dreary drag strip racing games of times past.

Featuring a suite of classic Carmageddon cars to collect and race around in, Crashers tasks players to work their way up the top of the Crashers league, defeating all enemies in your way. This is drag racing with a difference however, with cars starting from opposite ends of the drag strip in order to race as opposed to simply edging each other out over the finishing line. But will your car do the wrecking or becoming a wreck itself?

A bunch of seriously unhinged Mini Bosses and Zone Bosses plague your path on the road to victory, so it pays to buy new cars and upgrade them. Fill up a garage full of metal mangling machines in time and you’ll be ready to take on sponsors and boost your winnings. Just be sure not to get yourself in a tailspin.

A whole host of power ups help provide a competitive edge, un…

Gangstar New Orleans guide for iPhone, iPad, and Android – Part 5: Hints and tricks

In this last part of our guide to Gangstar: New Orleans we’re going to walk you through some of the tips and tricks you’re going to need to climb to the top of the criminal ladder. Is criminality a ladder? I honestly have no idea.

Anyway, we hope you’ve enjoyed reading through the guide, and that it’s helped you chase your dreams of becoming the best (worst?) criminal that New Orleans has ever seen. That’s the dream, right?

Without further ado, here’s some words to lead you through that final stretch. And if you’ve got any ideas of your own to add, feel free to stick them in the comments at the bottom of the article.

Don’t die

It might sound like a silly thing to say, but not dying is key to success in New Orleans. Mainly because it costs you currency every time your health bar drops to zero.

Soemtimes it’s worth considering your options. Should you spend some gems to get a health pack and keep on breathing, or toss away a chunk of gold to the doctor once you’ve died.

Then of course there’s the third option of just running away. That’s obviously not so easy when you’re playing one of the boxed-in missions, but if you’re in the open world sections it’s a perfectly viable strategy.

Check the time

One thing to remember is that the quicker you complete missions, the more stars you’re going to get. If you’re not getting three stars on a regular basis then it’s def…

Here’s everything you need to know about Pokemon GO’s eggstravaganza update for iPhone and Android

Easter is here, and that can only mean one thing. Pokemon GO has been updated! Actually it probably means a lot more than that, but that’s the thing I’m focusing on because I don’t know how much content I’d be able to get out of eggs and zombie Jesus.

So instead I’m going to write about the Pokemon GO eggstravaganza. So I guess I am writing about eggs. Look, it’s been a long day and I don’t know where my wallet is so let’s just try and get this over and done with then we can all go have a nice long weekend.

What is it?

The eggstravaganza is the latest update to Pokemon GO. It’s come out just in time for the Easter break, and it’s brought with it some new tweaks that are likely to make you smile while you stuff chocolate facsimiles of chicken periods into your face.

What tweaks?

Well, there’s now a wider range of Pokemon in the 2km eggs. So that’s a pretty good reason to put some shoes on and go for a wander. Plus every egg that you hatch is going to give you more candy. ‘Tis the season, after all.

The Pokemon that pop out are going to level up faster as well, thanks to the fact they get double XP. Basically Pokemon GO really wants you to start wandering around, collecting more Pokemon, and having a lovely old time in the sunshine.

Lucky Eggs are also on sale in the store. They’re 50% off, which is a pretty good deal, and using one of those will get you quadruple XP. Which sounds ridic…

Gangstar New Orleans guide for iPhone, iPad, and Android – Part 4: Advanced tips

So you’ve got this far in Gangstar: New Orleans, but now you’re looking for some tips and tricks that are going to push your criminality on to the next level. Well don’t you worry, we’re here to help.

In this fourth part of our guide to Gameloft’s latest crime sim we’re going to look at some advanced tips to make sure that you’re pushing your empire of wrongdoing in the right direction.

Tomorrow we’ll throw out some tips and hints to finish things off, but right now we’re going to focus on making sure players who’ve stuck a lot of time into the game are pushing in the right direction. I mean, it’d be embarrassing if they weren’t, right?

Choose your battles

It’s important to make sure you’re tough enough for the challenge that you’re facing. That doesn’t just mean being at the level the game requires, it means being well over it.

If you’re only a couple of points stronger than the game is suggesting, you need to go and grind some challenges and get some more upgrade materials to push you higher.

It might seem like a boring way around things, but the stronger you are the easier you’re going to find the challenges. And by the same token, the better you’re going to do in them.

Upgrade your car

Make sure you’re not just upgrading your weapons but you’re upgrading your vehicles as well. It’s all well and good having super strong guns, but your car needs to be on form as well.
