The 5 best games for iPhone and iPad this week – June 23rd

Friday is here. Hello Friday. You’re looking very nice aren’t you? Have you lost weight? That’s a lovely jumper you’re wearing. I like what you’ve done with your hair as well. I’m just super glad you’re here I guess. I’ve missed you.

You’ve probably missed Friday too. Because Friday at AppSpy is when we round up the best games that have hit the App Store this week. And it’s been a pretty damn good week all round. Many not vintage, but somewhere in the top 12 percentile. I don’t know what that means.

Anyway you can click on the emboldened names of the games below to download them. And if there’s anything you think other people should be playing this week, toss those recommendations in the comments at the bottom of the article.

Touchdowners

A super gem from Colin Lane. This one’s an American Football sim with a twist. The twist being it isn’t a sim at all, it’s in fact a chaotic rendition of the sport that sees you controlling three players at the same time. Fast, frantic, and most of all fun.

Age of Rivals

A fast-paced and surprisingly deep card game. Build your city, fight your rivals, and conquer as much as possible. All in t…

The best games on sale for iPhone and iPad right now – June 21st

Well Wednesday has really snuck up on us this week hasn’t it? Before you know it it’ll be Thursday. Then shortly after that it’ll be Friday. Then we get two days of laying down before the whole awful carousel of life starts again. Yay.

Anyway, on Wednesday here at AppSpy we like to round up the best games that are on sale on the App Store this week. And I’ll have you know that there are some proper gems in the offing this time round. Not like last week. Everyone glower at last week.

As per ever you can click on the emboldened name of the games below to download them. And if you spot anything on sale that you think our lovely readers deserve to hear more about, you can do so in the comments at the bottom of the article.

Kingdom: New Lands – £2.99 / $ 2.99

A weird and wonderful semi-idler that sees you riding a horse around your kingdom to distribute coins to your subjects. It sounds horribly simple, but in practice there’s an incredible amount of depth here. Oh, and it looks absolutely stunning. Definitely worth picking up if you haven’t experienced it already.

The Tuesday Best of – Metroidvanias for iPhone and iPad

Forma.8 came out last week. It’s a clever twist on the metroidvania formula that sees you floating around gorgeous levels acquiring new skills along the way. It’s slick and it’s ever so slightly lovely.

But it got me thinking about classic metroidvania games you could play on your iPhone. And that in turn set the content alarms screaming in my mind. Plus it’s Tuesday, the day when we quite often round up three of the best games in a specific genre.

Everything has fallen nicely into place. So here are the three best metroidvania games you can get on the App Store. Click on the emboldened names below to download them. And if you think I’ve missed anything, chuck your own suggestions in the comments at the bottom.

VVVVVV

A wonderfully difficult game with an art style that wouldn’t look out of place on a ZX Spectrum. You’re exploring the often bizarre innards of a spaceship, trying to find your friends as you do. It’s super tough, and sees you manipulating gravity rather than jumping. If you’ve not played it before, mobile is as good a place as any to have a crack at it.

The best games on sale for iPhone and iPad right now – June 14th

Oh look it’s Wednesday again. That means it’s time to have a look at the best games that are for sale on the App Store right now. To be honest it’s a bit of a rubbish week for sales, but I’ve picked five games that are worth a look.

It might make more sense to save your money for something else, unless you’re really desperate to try out one of the games on offer here.

As usual you can click on the emboldened names to download the various interactive entertainment experiences. And if you’ve spotted something you think we should have included feel free to let people know in the comments below.

Framed – Free

Definitely the diamond in the rough this week. If you’ve not played this one before, it’s all about shuffling comic panels to move a story forwards. It’s a clever mix of an adventure and a puzzler and it’s an absolute steal for free.

Lost Portal CCG – 99p / 99c

A super smart solo CCG that sees you venturing into dungeons to take on the beasts below and collect as much loot as possible. It’s super slick and, if you’re into card games you’re going to love this one to absolute pieces.

The Tuesday Best of – Multiplayer shooters for iPhone and iPad

Modern Combat Versus has just soft launched in Australia and New Zealand. If you’ve not heard of it it’s Gameloft’s latest version of its shooty bang bang series, this time with a focus on multiplayer. Shoot men, shoot some more men, win points and make your shooty stuff better. You know the drill, soldier.

So now seemed like a pretty good time to round up the three best multiplayer shooters that are available world wide on the App Store right now. Basically we’re taking a moment to check out the competition.

As usual you can click on the emboldened name of the game below to be whisked away to a safe and special place where you can download it. And if you think we’ve missed anything out – hard to believe I know – then chuck your own suggestions in the comments below the content.

Guns of Boom

It might have a terrible name, but right now this is the shooter to beat on the App Store. It’s super slick, super fast, and an incredible amount of fun to play. Team-based blasting with some neat ideas and a decent free to play system.

Sure it’s closer to the likes of Team Fortress 2 than the CoD-aping Modern Combat, but don’t let that put you off. This is one of the finest multiplayer experiences you can have on that little computer in your pocket.

The 5 best games for iPhone and iPad this week – June 9th

It’s been a pretty good week for iOS gaming, all told. Obviously one release stands head and shoulders over all the others. You know the one I’m talking about. Don’t worry if you don’t though, we’ll get to it in a bit.

As per usual, we’re going to round up the five best games that have hit the App Store this week. That’s just the kind of gentle and caring souls we are here at AppSpy. Sharing is caring. And we care. A lot.

You can click on the emboldened name of the games below to be whisked away to the App Store where you can download them. And if you think we’ve missed anything then feel free to chuck your own suggestions in the comments at the bottom of the article.

Monument Valley 2

I could only really lead with this one. It’s a staggering game, full of warmth and sadness and amazing ideas. It builds on the work of its predecessor with skill and style, and you should definitely be playing it right now.

Mr. Mustachio 2

A tough maths puzzler that isn’t going to be everyone’s tastes. It’s pretty darn difficult, but if you’re got a flare for numbers its arcade pace and lovely graphics are likely to sn…

The best games on sale for iPhone and iPad right now – June 7th

Hi Wednesday, how’s it going? Oh, really? That’s interesting. Anyway, since I don’t really care and I’m talking to a day, how about we get on with creating some excellent content for the fine readers of App Spy? Sounds like a plan? Cool.

Every Wednesday we round up the best games that are on sale on the App Store right now. And that’s exactly what we’re going to do. Because we’re fearsome creatures of habit here. Change will be the death of us.

As usual you can click on the emboldened name of the games below to download them. Get it? Got it? Good. Let’s do this.

After the End: Forsaken Destiny – £1.99 / $ 1.99

A gorgeous looking platforming adventure with a load of really good ideas. It mixes things together from a bunch of different sources, but it does it with heart and aplomb. Oh, and there’s a cool cape thrown into the mix as well.

Evergrow – 99p / 99c

A clever absorby shooter that’s all about absorbing things. And not exploding. It’s better than I just made it sound though. If you like your arcade games with a bit more meat on their bones then it’s definitely worth checking out

The 5 best games for iPhone and iPad this week – June 1st

Happy Friday. As everyone around here knows, Friday is the day of the week when we take stock, look at the mess we’ve made of the week, and try and make some sense of it. Or, in other words, we look at the five best games that came out on the App Store this week.

It’s not been a vintage seven days, to be honest, but after some of the gems we’ve had in the last few months that’s only to be expected. Still, there are some pretty solid entries to the list this week, and that’s not something to sniff at.

As usual you can click on the emboldened name of the games below to download them. And if you think we’ve missed anything out, feel free to stick your own suggestions in the comment section all the way down at the bottom of the article.

Bouncy Hoops

A slick basketball game that’s simple to pick up and pretty darn difficult to put down. It’s basically flappy balls, but with points for scoring baskets instead of making it through gaps in pipes. Oh, and it’s a lot better than I just made it sound.

Yankai’s Peak

The Tuesday Best of – Telltale Games for iPhone and iPad

Well it’s Tuesday, so I thought we should have a look at some games. Mobile games. Because, y’know, this is AppSpy, and that’s basically what we’re here for.

And since The Walking Dead: A New Frontier is coming to an end soon, I thought it was high time to look at the three best series that Telltale has released on mobile so far.

As usual you can click on the emboldened names of the games below to download them. And if you think we’ve missed any, feel free to stick your own suggestions in the comments below.

Tales From the Borderlands

It was a bit of a departure for Telltale this one, but in the end it was well worth your time. Set in the Borderlands universe, it’s one of the slickest releases from TT yet, blending humour, action, and gorgeous graphics to create something really rather special.

The Walking Dead

The original and, some might say, the best. Sure Telltale had released some other games before this one, but it was The Walking Dead that really put it on the map. Chock full of difficult decisions and painted in glorious shades of grey, this was the game that really kickstarted…

The best games on sale for iPhone and iPad right now – May 31st

It might feel like it’s Tuesday, but I’ve got some news for you. It’s actually Wednesday. Yeah, I was shocked when I worked that out too. Never mind though, it means it’s time for a round-up of the best games on sale on the App Store right now.

And there are some real gems that have had their prices slashed this week. So much so that I actually had difficulty deciding which ones to add to the list. I mean, not a lot of difficulty, but still, have some sympathy yeah?

As usual you can click on the emboldened name of the games below to download them. And if you’ve spotted a sale you think we should have mentioned, feel free to add it in the comments down there at the bottom of the article.

Circa Infinity – 99p / 99c

A challenging platformer with a pretty special twist. That twist is its circular. You’re bouncing around the edges of circles, dodging enemies and trying to stay alive. It’s twitchy, it has a look all of its own, and you should definitely play it.
