Fire Emblem: Heroes guide – Part four – Challenges, friends, and training

In this part of our Fire Emblem: Heroes guide we’re going to have a look at how you can get the most out of every play session, avoiding IAPs in the process.

The best idea is to focus on gathering resources, toughening up your team, and hitting the challenges. We’re going to break that down for you in slightly more complex chunks though.

Join us tomorrow when we’ll be covering some tips and strategies you’re going to need when you’re deeper into the game. Don’t worry, you don’t have to thank us. Well, me. You don’t have to thank me.

What are the challenges?

It’s a good idea to check the challenges and quests regularly so you know what you’re aiming for. The game is fun to play whatever you’re doing, but if you know you’re working towards a reward then it’s even more worthwhile.

You can check these on the home screen. And when you’ve completed them you’ll be able to collect your rewards from there too. There are other quests that pop up from time to time and if you complete these you’ll get the rewards sent to your inbox.

Make friends

One thing you might not have noticed on the home screen is that you’ll get visitors. These come from the friends you make in the PvP section of the game. So make sure you send friend requests after a fight.

The visitors will bring you gifts. And you’ll do the same to other players. Tap a visitor and you’ll get the reward. Sometimes your own charac…

Fire Emblem: Heroes guide – Part Three – Levelling up, skills, and rewards

In this third part of our Fire Emblem: Heroes guide we’re going to have a look at some of the menus you’re going to be using while you play the game.

Specifically we’re going to focus on the ones you’re going to be using to upgrade your characters. Mainly because the game isn’t very good at explaining what they do and why you need to be using them.

We’ll also throw in a few hints and tips about collecting your rewards, and how you can get more currencies to help you out.

Levelling up

A lot of the crystals you get can be used to power up your heroes to make them tougher. This is important, as you’ll want to keep ahead of the levelling curve to make sure that you’re not taking a beating in your fights.

To level up you choose a hero, then decide what level you want to push them to. The game will show you the highest level you can afford, but you can tap the arrows to drop it down, saving you some crystals to spend on your other characters.

It’s a good idea to keep more than four characters at a similar level, mainly so you can tweak the balance of your team if you’re coming up against an army that’s got a lot of characters that are strong against your main team.

Fire Emblem: Heroes guide – Part One – The basics

Well, Fire Emblem: Heroes is out. What did you think of it? I’ll be honest, I’m a fan. I think it’s a solid casual RPG that does things differently from a lot of other games on the App Store. And that’s always a good thing.

But if you’re just starting out in the game, you might need some help finding your feet. And that’s where this guide comes in. We’re gonna walk you through the hints, tips, and strategies you’re going to need to win.

In this first part we’re going to cover the basics, but come back over the next few ways and we’ll work our way through some of the tougher aspects of the game together. Because that’s what good heroes do.

The basics

Like I said before, the game is a casual RPG. The main thrust of it involves moving your characters around gridded levels and fighting bad guys.

You move your heroes by sliding them around. The blue squares you see when you push a finger on a hero represent how far they can move, the red represents how far their attacks reach.

There are four different types of characters. Three of them are representedby the weapon triangle in the bottom right corner of the screen, and have strengths and weaknesses that follow the path of the triangle.

There’s a fourth type as well that doesn’t fit on the triangle. They don’t have the weaknesses against the other colours, b…

Fire Emblem: Heroes guide – Part Two – Units and the weapon triangle

In this second part of our guide we’re going to look at the different types of units you’re going to be using while you’re fighting your way through Fire Emblem.

There are four different types, and we’re going to break them down for you piece by piece, to make sure you know exactly what you’re doing and who you’re doing it with.

Come back next time and we’ll have a long hard look at the battle system itself, and see if we can’t find some ways to make sure you’re kicking evil hero butt.

Red Sword

Red Sword characters are strong against Green Axes but weak against Blue Lances. As you can tell from the name they’re the characters that carry swords. Often these characters are the jack-of-all-trades of your roster, so it’s good to have at least one in your team.

Green Axes

Green Axe characters are strong against Blue Lances but weak against Red Swords. These characters will all, wait for it, be carrying axes. Usually they’re the strongest warriors, so you’ll want to throw them front and centre and support them with other characters.

Blue Lances

Blue Lance characters are strong against Red Swords but weak against Green Axes. You’ll never guess what they carry…

Fire Emblem Heroes is out tomorrow – Here’s everything we know

Well, here’s a turn-up for the books. It looks like Nintendo’s next mobile game is a lot closer than we thought. And I do mean a lot closer. It’s so close you can almost smell it. Smell that? That’s what it smells like.

Fire Emblem Heroes is, according to Polygon, going to come out tomorrow. That’s right, mark your calendars. Or don’t bother, because it’s coming out tomorrow and it’s pretty much nearly tomorrow already.

We’ve also got some more details about what the game is going to be like. And apparently it’s a departure from the model that Nintendo used with Super Mario Run. Because Fire Emblem Heroes is free to play. With that in mind, here’s everything we know about the game.

It’s free to play

And by the sounds of things it’s free to play in a traditionally mobile sort of way. You’re not going to get a chunk of the game and then have to pay for the rest. Instead it’s wait-timers, currencies, and all of that stuff.

There’s a lot of RPG goodness here

While it might be free to play, there’s going to be a lot here that Fire Emblem fans are going to be familiar with. There’s characters to level up, a massive world to explore, and lots and lots of battles to engage in.

Play with fire at midnight tonight in sparky arcade game Primal Flame

Firey dodge-’em-up Primal Flame will sputter to life on the App Store at midnight tonight.

A gesture-based twitch game from developer Irrelevant Fish, Primal Flame is the digital embodiment of everything your mother told you not to do.

You see, this is a game about playing with matches.

To start, you strike your match by swiping the touchscreen. Once the match is lit, it’s up to you to keep the flame burning.

This isn’t as easy as it sounds, however. You’ll have to avoid raindrops, snowflakes, and falling leaves, all of which will extinguish your flame in a moment if they make contact.

What’s more, sentient plants will snake towards the light, ready to snuff out the flame-retardant in their ash-hungry jaws.

You’ll be able to download Primal Flame from the App Store at midnight tonight. It’ll cost you £1.99 / $ 2.99.
