War Robots VR: The Skirmish is the mech game you’ve always wanted

War Robots is making the jump from third to first-person in an all new single-player adventure for VR headsets. War Robots VR: The Skirmish, which has just been released today, lets you take control of your very own mech robot. Set in a beautifully imagined post-apocalyptic world, it’s your job to seek out your purpose.

Where War Robots specialized in multiplayer team battles, you’re going it alone in War Robots VR: The Skirmish. You’ll face off against enemy mechs in exciting gun battles that take full advantage of VR technology as you explore The Skirmish’s stunning cyberpunk setting.

Gameplay has been designed with mechs in mind, and combat looks to be urgent and exciting. It’s not easy to make lumbering robots look like graceful fighting machines, but The Skirmish has achieved this difficult feat. The controls look to be fluid and responsive, fully immersing you in the role of mech pilot.

It’s rare that we get the chance to sit in the cockpit of our very own mech, let alone in virtual reality. It will certainly be exciting to see where Pixonic takes the War Robots series as they continue their forays into VR.

E3 2014: Hands-on with Mech, the online arena-based robo-battler

Chillingo announced its team-based eight-on-eight robotic deathmatch game Mech earlier this week.

Just a few short days later we got our hands on the game itself, courtesy of the Chillingo booth at E3.

Mech draws heavily on the ethos of huge robot simulation series Mech-Warrior, so fans of these PC classics should feel quite at home with the new title.

This is still a very early build of the game, with a lot of kinks still being hammered out by developer Small Impact Games. With a lot of polish still being added, nothing is final, but Peter does get a chance to find out how controlling a large robot will work on a touch screen, and how the team hopes to implement its free-to-play model.

Mech‘s massive robotic-combat is in place, however, so we get to watch Chillingo’s Dan Tausney show us how it’s done, and tell us more of what we can expect from the final game.

Trade in your rocket booster for a giant mech with new Jetpack Joyride update

Jetpack Joyride is great and all, but I’ve always felt it was lacking one important element: the ability to play as an enormous homicidal robot.

Thankfully, the folks at Halfbrick have seen fit to correct this terrible oversight in the game’s most recent update, codenamed ‘S.A.M.’

If you can get Barry to collect three tokens, then the stubble-faced aeronaut will leap into the belly of the giant mech. Check it out:

What’s more, if you manage to hop inside S.A.M.’s metal chassis on five consecutive days, you’ll unlock some bonus costumes for Barry.

And, for those of you who already have Christmas on the brain (for shame) you can now purchase Santa’s rocket-equipped sleigh, and lay siege to your laboratory while sleigh bells jingle.

Jetpack Joyride owners can download the S.A.M. update for free right now.
