The Monday Musing – Everything you need to know about Titanfall: Assault

Well, Monday has flobbled into view, weary from its exertions at the weekend, dreaming of a Tuesday that it knows will never come. Poor Monday, so despised by all and sundry, all it wants to do is live a little, but it never can.

What it can do is provide the perfect platform for the Monday Musing. After all, both of the words start with M. It’s like it was meant to be, pre-ordained in the glimmering ether. Or some such nonsense.

This week I’m going to have a muse about Titanfall: Assault. It’s a card-battler in the Clash Royale mould, and it’s set to hit the App Store later this week. Here’s everything you need to know about what the game has to offer.

What is it?

It’s a real time strategy game with a bit of MOBA thrown in there for good measure. You’re in charge of your troops, sending them in to battle. The scraps last four minutes, and a minute in you’ll be able to drop a massive Titan into the fray.

The aim is capturing bases. So you need to make sure you’re defending as well as attacking. Throw your troops too far ahead and you’ll find yourself screwed if your foe begins a concentrated attack.

How does it capture the ethos of the console game?

Well, with the Titans mainly. Obviously this isn’t an FPS with wall running. But it lifts a decent chunk of ideas from the main Titanfall series and wraps it all up in a more mobile-friendly package.

You’re sending g…

Here’s everything you need to know about Monument Valley 2 for iPhone and iPad

Well that was a bolt out of the blue wasn’t it? Monument Valley 2 didn’t just get announced yesterday, it got released as well. And it’s really rather special. Which obviously means it’s time for some content.

I thought it’d be a good idea to round up everything you need to know about the game in one handy place, so you’re fully prepared for what’s to come when you leap in. And you should leap in. Oh please leap in.

Don’t worry though, there aren’t any spoilers here, because that would be a horrible thing to do. You can click on the emboldened name of the game below to grab it from the App Store. And I assure you, you really should.

Monument Valley 2

What is it?

It’s the sequel to one of the finest mobile games the App Store has ever seen. It’s a slick platforming puzzler that you control with taps and swipes. You’re moving the levels around so your character, or in some cases characters, can make it to the exit.

Of course there’s much more to it than that, but I don’t want to go into too much detail about the story, because it’s definitely the sort of thing you’ll want to discover for yourself. Trust me on that.

How long is it?

It’s a little bit longer than the original Monument Valley, but not by much. You’ll probably have polished the game off in a couple of hours. But those are go…

Here’s everything you need to know about Titanfall: Assault

Titanfall: Assault is the second bite at the Titanfall mobile cherry. The second I hear you scream, but what was the first? Well that was Titanfall: Frontline, which got soft launched and then quietly cancelled. So yeah, second.

This time around there’s a lot more action to sink your teeth into. Again, the game is only in soft launch at the moment, but I though it’d be sensible to give you a heads-up about what the game is, what you can expect from it, and how many titans there are in it (lots).

What is it?

Well it’s a bit like Clash Royale. But it’s also a bit like a tower defence game. But it’s also a bit like a tower offence game. It’s a base versus base scrap to the death with units and rockets and giant titans.

There are control points on the map too, and gun turrets, and it looks pretty shiny from the glimpse we’ve had of it so far. It’s good to see a game that’s taking the casual MOBA idea and actually running with it.

How many Titans?

Well the battles last four minutes, and at the moment the Titans turn up three minutes into the scrap. Before that you’re throwing troops into the level, capturing and defending points and trying to earn a higher score than your foe.

You’ve got rockets too, which do huge damage if they hit something. And then there are turrets that you can use to create choke points. Like in Aliens, but hopefully more successfully.

There…

Here’s everything you need to know about Angry Birds Islands

There’s a new Angry Birds game out. Well, it’s not out OUT, but it has been soft launched in a few places. And our lovely video chap James has played it. And then made a video of himself playing it. Because that’s what people use the internet for nowadays. You can watch the video below.

Anyway, I thought it’d be a good idea to round up everything we know about Angry Birds Islands in one handy to digest piece of content. In fact, this easy to digest piece of content. The one you’re reading right now.

Without further ado then, here’s all of the important stuff you need to know about Angry Birds: Islands. If you know some secret information that you want to share with the rest of the world, even if it isn’t about the game, feel free to add it in the comments at the bottom of the article.

What is it?

It’s a casual resource management, item crafting game. Think Clash of Clans, but with Birds and Pigs instead of Barbarians and all of the other things that are in Clash of Clans.

There are a bunch of islands to explore and hack to bits with your pig workforce. And you use the resources they gather to build up your town. The better the town you’ve got, the better you’ll feel about yourself. Maybe.

What sets it apart?

Well, there’s those birds and pigs. And there’s more of a focus on crafting things than you might expect to find in this sort of game. Plus it’s super polished,…

Here’s everything you need to know about Pokemon GO’s eggstravaganza update for iPhone and Android

Easter is here, and that can only mean one thing. Pokemon GO has been updated! Actually it probably means a lot more than that, but that’s the thing I’m focusing on because I don’t know how much content I’d be able to get out of eggs and zombie Jesus.

So instead I’m going to write about the Pokemon GO eggstravaganza. So I guess I am writing about eggs. Look, it’s been a long day and I don’t know where my wallet is so let’s just try and get this over and done with then we can all go have a nice long weekend.

What is it?

The eggstravaganza is the latest update to Pokemon GO. It’s come out just in time for the Easter break, and it’s brought with it some new tweaks that are likely to make you smile while you stuff chocolate facsimiles of chicken periods into your face.

What tweaks?

Well, there’s now a wider range of Pokemon in the 2km eggs. So that’s a pretty good reason to put some shoes on and go for a wander. Plus every egg that you hatch is going to give you more candy. ‘Tis the season, after all.

The Pokemon that pop out are going to level up faster as well, thanks to the fact they get double XP. Basically Pokemon GO really wants you to start wandering around, collecting more Pokemon, and having a lovely old time in the sunshine.

Lucky Eggs are also on sale in the store. They’re 50% off, which is a pretty good deal, and using one of those will get you quadruple XP. Which sounds ridic…

Gangstar New Orleans is out right now for iPhone, iPad, and Android – Here’s everything you need to know

Gangstar: New Orleans is the latest in Gameloft’s murdery crime franchise. Think GTA on mobile and you’re about half way there. Well, actually you’re about all of the way there.

But what do you need to know before you jump into the game’s world of car-jackings, drug deals, and all manner of other underworld activities? Well, you need to know everything in the list just below.

You can click on the emboldened name of the game to head over to the App Store where you can download it for free. And join us next week where we’ll be going over the game with a fine-tooth comb in one of our massive guides.

Gangstar: New Orleans – Free

What is it?

Like the intro says, it’s the newest in Gameloft’s series of GTA aping crime sims. This time it’s set in New Orleans and it’s free to play.

You play a grizzled gangster type who’s setting out with some unscrupulous friends to take over a power vacuum left by a series of arrest by the New Orleans police.

To that end you complete tasks, murder a lot of people, and try and claim turf from other gang leaders on your way to the top.

Free to play you say?

I did say that, didn’t I? Yup, while the game is still ostensibly open world, every time you perform a mission you’ll have to spend some energy.

There’s plenty of ot…

Lords of the Fallen is out right now on iPad and iPhone, here’s everything you need to know

Lords of the Fallen is a new mobile game that has ties with the console game of the same name. So we thought it’d make sense to give you a breakdown of just what that means.

So here, in handy list form, is everything you need to know about the game that just hit the App Store. Well, almost everything. We don’t know any hacks or anything crazy like that.

It’s premium

And when I say premium, I mean super premium. You’re looking at a ten pound spend to get the game installed on your device. Which is, well, pretty expensive in this day and age, let’s be honest.

But it also has consumable IAPs. They’re not necessary to complete the game or anything like that, but one of them costs £48.99. And another, which gives you all the equipment in the game will set you back £9.99. Like I say though, they’re not essential.

It’s Infinity Blade

I mean, it’s not, there are a few additions to the template here, but this is a swipey swipey action game that sees you taking on hulking monsters in one on one combat.

You swipe to attack, tap a shield to block, and hit buttons on the left and right of the screen to dodge in that direction. You can parry as well.

Oh, and you’ve got magic spells you can throw out to change the ebb and flow of the battle. There’s equipment to upgrade, and you can buff up your arcane powers as well, if you’re into that sort of thing.

Everything you need to know about Pokemon Duel on iPhone, iPad, and Android

In a break to our regularly scheduled content, I figured I should probably write something about the new Pokemon game that’s just come out on the App Store.

Yeah, you read that right, there’s a new Pokemon game on the App Store. How could I write about anything else when I’m so excited about all of those Pokemon and the balls and all the rest of that stuff.

Anyway, here’s a break down of all the stuff you need to know about Pokemon Duel. So you can just jump straight in and start duelling some Pokemon. Classic.

What is it?

It’s not your standard Pokemon game, that’s for sure, and it’s not the sort of thing that’s likely to make as much noise as Pokemon GO. What it is is a strategy boardgame that sees you using your Poke-deck to beat a foe.

You collect different Pokemon and then use them to take control of a grid. There are little fights that involve spinning a wheel, and cards you can play that change some of the effects that your monsters have.

What’s the set up?

You’re working your way through a series of fights to prove you’re the best. I think the opening cinematic heavily suggests that if you’re victorious you’ll nab yourself a giant tower. Which is sort of cool.

Put in your own name, play a few practice bouts, and you’re good to go. But don’t be surprised if you get trounced to begin with.

There’s a surprising amount of depth here, in spite of the fact that thing…

Should I get it?

That’s the big question. So to help you out, here’s the official AppSpy verdict, in video form.
