The AppSpy end of year awards: The 3 best games for iPhone and iPad of September 2017

Welcome back to the ninth chunk of our look back at the best games that came out on the App Store this year. We’re into September. The leaves are starting to change colour. I mean, I know we’re not and they’re not, but I’m just trying to set the mood.

There are links below to all of the other parts of the series so far, there’s some great games in those lists. Seriously. Tomorrow we’re going to be up to October. October is probably spooky, I don’t know. My brain is turning into mush.

The 5 best games for iPhone and iPad this week – September 29th

Whichever way you look at it, it’s almost certainly Friday. And Friday is when we round up the very best games that have come out on the App Store this week. So let’s not beat around the bush, let’s just jump head first into it.

As usual you can click on the emboldened names of the games below to download them. And if you think we’ve missed anything off, feel free to let us know in the comments section all the way down there at the bottom of the article.

AKA To Blue

A slick as all hell bullet-dodging arcade blaster that boasts some of the finest graphics the genre has seen in a long while. It’s fun, it’s frantic, and there are always plenty of spaceships and tanks for you to blast into bits. It might be tough, but this is one game that’s well worth persevering with.

Ticket to Ride: First Journey

A squsihed down version of the classic board game. This one might be targeted at a slightly younger group of players, but don’t let that put you off. There’s still a slot of fun to be had, and the game acts as a brilliant introduction to the world of digital board games. Oh, and it looks great too.

The best games on sale for iPhone and iPad right now – September 27th

Hi there, and welcome to another edition of it’s Wednesday. I’m going to be your host today, Harry, and I’m going to walk you through everything you need to know about this most auspicious of days. You lucky so-and-so’s.

Wednesday at AppSpy is where we round up the best games that are currently on sale on the App Store. It’s not a vintage week, all told, but there are some gems here that should tide you over if your budget is looking a little bit thin.

Clicking on the emboldened names of the games below will take you to the App Store where you can grab them. And if you’ve spotted any sales you think we should have included, feel free to stick them in the comments at the bottom of the article.

Fighting Fantasy Legends – £1.99 / $ 1.99

A slick reimagining of the famous game books. This one plays more like a board game, with pieces and dice rolls. There are still choices to be made, and plenty of text to read, but if you’re the sort who likes their adventures to have a bit more action and a bit less imagination, then this is going to be right up your street.

The 5 best games for iPhone and iPad this week – September 22nd

Friday has come around again, bringing with it the chiming doom of another week. The days are fading, time moves inexorably onwards, entropy will claim us all. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t play some sick mobile games in the meantime.

And since so many great ones came out this week, you probably need some sort of round-up to tell you where to spend your hard earned cash monies. Well fret not my wee friends, because that’s exactly what I’ve gone and written for you.

You can poke at the emboldened names of the games below to download them. And if you’ve got your own suggestions it really would be lovely if you put them in the comments section at the bottom of the article. I’ll give you a hug if I ever see you in real life if you do that. Honest.

The Witness

It’s been a long time coming, but Jonathan Blow’s open world puzzle adventure has finally landed on the App Store. You’re on an island, you’ve got 500 puzzles to figure out. You can do it at your own pace, exploring and finding out more as you figure out each challenge. It’s incredibly slick, and you’ll be sinking hours into it.

Stormbound

A tactical turn-based mobile MOBA. Send out your armies to try an…

The best games on sale for iPhone and iPad right now – September 20th

Yes, it’s Wednesday. It’s been Wednesday for quite a while now, depending on where you are. It might not be Wednesday in some places. How does time even work? I have no idea. Go ask a grown up, we’re here to talk about games.

And on Wednesday (which is the day that today is), we talk about games that are on sale. Five of them. The best five that are currently going for cheap on the App Store. So that’s exactly what we’re going to do right now.

As usual you can click on the emboldened name of the games below to download them from the App Store. And if you’ve got your own suggestions, feel free to toss them haphazardly into the comments section at the bottom of the article.

Scurvy Scallywags – Free

There are a lot of match-stuff puzzlers on the App Store. A good deal of them are complete garbage. This one isn’t though. It’s full of pirates and silliness, and its full name is far too long to type. The board moves, you’re trying to create the perfect sea shanty, and the whole thing is really rather wonderful.

The 5 best games for iPhone and iPad this week – September 15th

It’s Friday. I’m going to go climb some mountains later, but in the meantime I suppose I’ll create some super hot content for you. That’s just the kinda guy I am. Also it’s my job, so, I guess that’s a reason as well.

Anyway, Friday is when we round up the best games that have come out on the App Store this week. And when I say we, I mean me. There’s no one else here. I just like to give off the illusion that I’m working in a high-stakes newsroom, instead of in a corner of my flat surrounded by empty pop bottles.

Fun. You can click on the emboldened names of the games below to head off to the App Store and download them. And if you’ve seen anything you think people should be getting, feel free to stick it in the comments at the bottom of the article. Cool. Cool cool cool.

Iron Marines

A rich and incredibly well thought out RTS that takes the genre, shakes it up, and makes it fit wonderfully on mobile. Slick, full of things to do, and without the menus and fiddling that normally put people off this sort of thing.

The 5 best games for iPhone and iPad this week – September 7th

Friday has arrived, and with it the blessed relief of it almost being the weekend. It’s pretty exciting isn’t it? We’ve got two days off to drink away all the terrible memories of the week. Or to go out and do things that we enjoy doing with the people that we love. Y’know, if that’s the sort of thing that you’re into or whatever.

As you’re probably aware by now, Friday is when we round up all of the good games that have come out this week on the App Store. There are some pretty shiny releases this week, so picking five was actually pretty tough. I did it though, because it’s what I do. It is what I do.

You can click on the emboldened names of the games below to download them. And if you think anything else that should have been included on the list, then feel free to make your own suggestions in the comments at the bottom of the article. It’d be nice, you know, just to have someone to talk to.

Atomine

A slick twin stick shooter with a thick and engaging art style that will keep you playing for a good long while. Procedurally generated levels filled with waves of angry red enemies will keep you entertained, and the challenge level amps up as different kinds of bad guys try and stop your progress.

Don’t Eat Us

A strange mix of an auto-runner and a tapper. Yo…
