Strike Team Hydra 1.0

Device: iOS Universal
Category: Games
Price: $ 5.99, Version: 1.0 (iTunes)

You are the commander of an elite Strike Team aboard the warship, HYDRA. Your first combat mission will have you leading your team in vicious ship-to-ship battles against the Sethari, a mysterious alien race whose soldiers are genetically bred for war.

In Strike Team Hydra, you are the commanding officer of a squad of soldiers from the far future. Command each warrior and use cover, suppressive fire, advanced weapons and iron will to defeat the enemy. Always outnumbered, your soldiers will depend on your tactical brilliance to prevail.

•COVER: Use barricades and barrels as cover for your soldiers. Less conventional force fields and tachyon fields can also grant a tactical edge to those that hold them.

•SUPPRESSION: Use suppressive fire to pin enemy soldiers in place before finishing them off in close assault or with a well-placed grenade.

•ACTION POINTS: Every action, including movement, attacks and special abilities, requires action points. Spend them wisely to achieve victory.

•MORALE: Your soldiers and the enemy are affected by their courage and determination. If the battle goes well, they fight with grit and determination. If it goes badly, they will focus more on saving themselves than the mission at hand.

Play through a campaign featuring 28 intense firefights including various mission objectives and grueling boss fights. An additional 20 combat missions are available to hone your skills.

Skylanders Trap Team™ iPad Review (5/5)

Rather than try to make a spin-off, or a severely compromised portable version, Activision has made Skylanders Trap Team a full console quality experience.

It’s a sight to behold, and even though it practically requires the Portal be used with it at all times, it’s a small price to pay.

Star Wars: Assault Team Review (3/5)

We don’t mind admitting that we were excited as we started playing the free-to-play Star Wars: Team Assault. It wasn’t the Star Wars fanfare that set our nostalgia glands tingling. That lost its potency long ago. Nope, it was the scenario that got our sabres flaring.

Starting just after the original film, you take control of Han Solo as he attempts to infiltrate the Empire. With Han, Chewie, and R2-D2 in your squad, you’d be forgive for thinking the story might evolve into something special. Unfortunately, we were quickly disappointed.

You start Assault Team by battling your way free of a Star Destroyer’s detention block. Thanks to some pleasingly stark lines, this environment looks decent as you’re pushed around its corridors. However, when you advance to exterior locations like the Kashyyk, the visuals become muddy and rough.

Worse still, the turn-based combat lacks any kind of engagement. You take control of a squad of hero cards, and are dragged on rails around the 3D world to the next battle. Turns play out mercifully quickly, as you select which generic opponent to target, and whether to use your hero’s special ability. There is no personality to the action – instead, you are treated to fight after fight, with only a moments respite between each to ponder if you are enjoying yourself.

We did find some deeper elements in the special abilities. As you collect cards you gain access to more characters, each…

Invade the Atlas Mountains against the clock in Call of Duty: Strike Team update

Activision’s hybrid shooter Call of Duty: Strike Team now features even more ways to kill a dude from another country, thanks to the game’s latest update.

If wading through enemy territory with only a side arm and a flak jacket between you and a permanent dirt nap isn’t exciting enough for you, then you might enjoy Strike Team‘s newly-added Beat the Clock mode.

This mode has you blasting baddies against the clock, with every fallen hostile adding valuable seconds to your timer.

Players who have reached XP level 16 will also find an extra map available to them. Set in the Altas Mountains, this combat zone can be explored in Time Attack and Survival modes.

What’s more, the dev team has introduced support for one of those new Apple-certified controllers you heard about, allowing you to play the game with real, honest-to-goodness dual thumbsticks.

Though it suffers from a bit of an identity crisis, we thought Call of Duty: Strike Team was an interesting experiment in combining first-person combat with top-down tactical warfare.

You can grab it now for £4.99 / $ 8.99.
