The Thursday Find, our favourite game of the week – Time Recoil

Oh look it’s Thursday again. I know I said things were going to change around here last week, but I’ve decided some things are better staying the way they are. At least for the time being anyway. But don’t get too attached to anything, destruction is the nature of the universe.

All of that means that we’re going to do another Thursday Find. That’s when we write about one game that you definitely should be playing this week. It was hard picking just one, but I think I’ve spotted an under-appreciated doozy that’s going to make you go “oh, thanks for finding us that under-appreciated doozy, Harry.”

As usual you can click on the emboldened name of the game below to download it from the App Store. And if you’ve got your own suggestions for a Thursday Find, feel free to share them with the class by adding them to the comments down there at the bottom of this excellent content.

Time Recoil

This one has been out on various other consoles and gaming devices for a while now, but it’s just landed on the App Store and it’s pretty damn good. If you like twin-stick shooters you’re going to lap it up.

Bear in mind though that this is a twin-stick shooter with a twist. Namely that there’s only one stick. And when you shoot people you slow down time. Oh, and if you kill enough people you’ll unlock special moves that can literally destroy walls.

Fans of all things mind-bending and mysterious will be able to get their fix from today, as The House of Da Vinci graces smartphone screens tasking players to escape and seek the truth. Available now for iOS devices, the kickstarted game from developer Blue Brain Games provides a unique hands-on 3D puzzle experience which tales its inspiration from The Room series.

So what’s the story? You’re placed in the role of the great Leonardo’s da Vinci’s apprentice and it’s up to you to find out what’s behind his strange disappearance. Was he killed by the church? Did some of his machines transport him into another time? Is he hiding under the bed? The only way to be sure is by solving a series of head-scratching puzzles that will see you ferreting out hidden artefacts and unpicking complex mechanisms, while conquering a host of other obstacles that strive to be challenging as well as faithfully authentic to the time.

One of the big motivations for Blue Brain Games when developing The House of Da Vinci, was to provide all that play the puzzle adventurer a true sense of authenticity. The game’s music, architecture, and mood all take inspiration from actual da Vinci concepts, manuscripts and inventions, firmly placing players within the world of 16th century Italy.

Clash for Dawn players have amassed 800 years of game time since launch

Clash for Dawn launched just over three months ago, and has since reached a massive 1.5 million downloads across the iOS and Android mobile platforms. To give you some perspective, that’s 520 new players every hour.

All the more impressive is how much time they’ve ploughed into the game collectively – 800 years in fact. Yes, that’s exactly how much gameplay time has been recorded from all players since launch.

What have they done? Well, they’ve hired 21 million mercenaries, completed 144 million quests, and enhanced 45 million weapons for a start.

Then there’s the absolute mountain of gold that’s been looted – 4.5 trillion gold coins to be exact – as well as 22 million players killed in PvP, 1.8 million team dungeons completed, and 745,000 bosses demolished.

Clash for Dawn has been well and truly played.

If you haven’t played it yet, it’s an action RPG reminiscent of Diablo in which you play as a Warrior, Archer, Mage, or Priest and defeat thousands upon thousands of demonic foes.

Defeat enough and you’ll level up – this lets you increase your stats, unlock new skills, and equip totally new gear. And you’ll need to do all of that if you want to take on the epic dungeons, where a gigantic boss lurks at the end.

Battle of Balls will be free for a limited time in celebration of its worldwide launch on iOS and Android

Battle of Balls is a unique mobile multiplayer game developed by Superpop that launched over a month ago in select regions.

It’s been well-received and even topped the App Store charts in several regions. That’s all thanks to the highly addictive and accessible gameplay and regular updates that it’s received since launch.

Battle of Balls tasks you with speeding around an arena swallowing smaller balls to grow in size. It’s multiplayer so you’ll want to grow larger than all of your opponents and swallow them to achieve those higher scores.

You can customise your ball’s design and name so that other players will recognise you when you approach or hide in bushes if you don’t want to be seen. You can also split your ball into two when you grow really big so you can cover more ground.

Battle of Balls will launch worldwide tomorrow on iOS and Android and will be free for a limited time. Grab it before it goes premium to get the entire game which includes no IAPs for free.

Head on over to the App Store or Google Play tomorrow to grab Battle of Balls for free so you can experience the crazy gameplay yourself…
