The 5 best games for iPhone and iPad this week – November 3rd

It’s Friday, and when it’s Friday we like to round up the best games that have come out on the App Store this week. So guess what? That’s exactly what we’re going to do. No messing about here today.

If you want to download any of our selection, you can click on the emboldened names of the games below. And if you think we’ve missed anything out, feel free to let us know in the comments section at the bottom of the article.

Final Fantasy Dimensions 2

A neat FF game that sits somewhere between Squeenix’s mobile output and a fully fledged title. It’s a lot of fun, and it cuts back on a lot of the wandering around that some people find off putting about the series. It’s full of retro charm, interesting characters, and plenty of scraps to sink your teeth into.

Runic Rampage

You’re a dwarf. A very angry dwarf. And you’ve got a big hammer. Your job is to stomp around tight levels, mashing bad monsters to bits. It’s a simple set up, but the crunching combat and giant splurges of gore are pretty special to behold. An RPG levelling system lets you tailor your character to how you play as well.

The 5 best games for iPhone and iPad this week – October 20th

It’s Friday again. The week is spinning towards its ignominious and no doubt messy end. By which I mean it’s nearly the weekend and we’re all probably going to go out and get real silly. I know I am. Real silly. You know what I mean.

Anyway, there’s still the small matter of one more bit of AppSpy content to round off the week in style. And since it’s Friday, like it always is on Fridays, that means we’re going to round up all the best games that came out on the App Store this week. So that’ll be fun.

As usual you can click on the emboldened names of the games below to download them from the App Store. And if you’ve spotted anything that caught your eye that we’ve missed, feel free to chuck your suggestions in the comments down there at the bottom of the article. Cool. Cool cool cool.

Warhammer Quest 2

A turn-based dungeon crawler set in the most miserable, monster-riddled corners of the Warhammer world. Build up your party of unlikely adventurers in order to try and save the world from the ravages of chaos. Oh, and get some sweet loot in the process.

The Thursday Find, our favourite game of the week – Time Recoil

Oh look it’s Thursday again. I know I said things were going to change around here last week, but I’ve decided some things are better staying the way they are. At least for the time being anyway. But don’t get too attached to anything, destruction is the nature of the universe.

All of that means that we’re going to do another Thursday Find. That’s when we write about one game that you definitely should be playing this week. It was hard picking just one, but I think I’ve spotted an under-appreciated doozy that’s going to make you go “oh, thanks for finding us that under-appreciated doozy, Harry.”

As usual you can click on the emboldened name of the game below to download it from the App Store. And if you’ve got your own suggestions for a Thursday Find, feel free to share them with the class by adding them to the comments down there at the bottom of this excellent content.

Time Recoil

This one has been out on various other consoles and gaming devices for a while now, but it’s just landed on the App Store and it’s pretty damn good. If you like twin-stick shooters you’re going to lap it up.

Bear in mind though that this is a twin-stick shooter with a twist. Namely that there’s only one stick. And when you shoot people you slow down time. Oh, and if you kill enough people you’ll unlock special moves that can literally destroy walls.

The 5 best games for iPhone and iPad this week – October 13th

Whether you like it or not, we’ve reached the end of another week. Some of us have done things, some of us have done stuff, some of us have spent too much time asleep on their sofa. But it’s done with now. We’ll turn over a new leaf on Monday, right?

Anyway, Friday is when we round up the best games that have come out on the App Store this week. And it’s been a pretty sparkly week for mobile gaming all told. We got some ports, we got some exclusives, and everything that came out, for the most part, was pretty darn good.

As usual you can click on the emboldened names of the games below to download them from the App Store. And if you’ve spotted anything else you think should be on the list, it’d be nice if you stuck it in the comments down there are the bottom of the hot content.

The Talos Principle

The super slick first person puzzler game finally gets to the App Store. It’s every bit as intriguing on your phone or tablet, although it is pretty resource intensive. The controls translate pretty well, and while it might not be a perfect port, for just a fiver it’s pretty hard to complain.

The 5 best games for iPhone and iPad this week – October 6th

Friday is happening. Friday is happening all around us. There’s nothing anyone can do about it, so let’s just roll with the punches and see what happens. This crazy rollercoaster ride is going to have to come to an end at some point, whether we want it to or not.

If you’d like some entertainment while the carriages shoot up and down though, Friday is when we round up the best games that have come out this week on the App Store. Quite frankly it’s a bit of an odd week, but bear with me because I think there’s some decent games to be found if you’re willing to persevere.

As usual you can click on the emboldened names of the games below to download them from the App Store. And if you’ve got your own suggestions about what should be included, feel free to whack them in the comments section all the way down there at the bottom of the content. Stay fresh.

REKT

There’s a lot to be said for flipping hyper-powered cars off the end of ramps. And Rekt understands that. It’s a simple game, but there’s a lot going on here if you really want to master the spins and skids you need to get the best scores. It’s silly, it’s entertaining, and it doesn’t take itself too seriously. Really, what’s not to like?

The 5 best games for iPhone and iPad this week – September 29th

Whichever way you look at it, it’s almost certainly Friday. And Friday is when we round up the very best games that have come out on the App Store this week. So let’s not beat around the bush, let’s just jump head first into it.

As usual you can click on the emboldened names of the games below to download them. And if you think we’ve missed anything off, feel free to let us know in the comments section all the way down there at the bottom of the article.

AKA To Blue

A slick as all hell bullet-dodging arcade blaster that boasts some of the finest graphics the genre has seen in a long while. It’s fun, it’s frantic, and there are always plenty of spaceships and tanks for you to blast into bits. It might be tough, but this is one game that’s well worth persevering with.

Ticket to Ride: First Journey

A squsihed down version of the classic board game. This one might be targeted at a slightly younger group of players, but don’t let that put you off. There’s still a slot of fun to be had, and the game acts as a brilliant introduction to the world of digital board games. Oh, and it looks great too.

The 5 best games for iPhone and iPad this week – September 22nd

Friday has come around again, bringing with it the chiming doom of another week. The days are fading, time moves inexorably onwards, entropy will claim us all. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t play some sick mobile games in the meantime.

And since so many great ones came out this week, you probably need some sort of round-up to tell you where to spend your hard earned cash monies. Well fret not my wee friends, because that’s exactly what I’ve gone and written for you.

You can poke at the emboldened names of the games below to download them. And if you’ve got your own suggestions it really would be lovely if you put them in the comments section at the bottom of the article. I’ll give you a hug if I ever see you in real life if you do that. Honest.

The Witness

It’s been a long time coming, but Jonathan Blow’s open world puzzle adventure has finally landed on the App Store. You’re on an island, you’ve got 500 puzzles to figure out. You can do it at your own pace, exploring and finding out more as you figure out each challenge. It’s incredibly slick, and you’ll be sinking hours into it.

Stormbound

A tactical turn-based mobile MOBA. Send out your armies to try an…

The 5 best games for iPhone and iPad this week – September 15th

It’s Friday. I’m going to go climb some mountains later, but in the meantime I suppose I’ll create some super hot content for you. That’s just the kinda guy I am. Also it’s my job, so, I guess that’s a reason as well.

Anyway, Friday is when we round up the best games that have come out on the App Store this week. And when I say we, I mean me. There’s no one else here. I just like to give off the illusion that I’m working in a high-stakes newsroom, instead of in a corner of my flat surrounded by empty pop bottles.

Fun. You can click on the emboldened names of the games below to head off to the App Store and download them. And if you’ve seen anything you think people should be getting, feel free to stick it in the comments at the bottom of the article. Cool. Cool cool cool.

Iron Marines

A rich and incredibly well thought out RTS that takes the genre, shakes it up, and makes it fit wonderfully on mobile. Slick, full of things to do, and without the menus and fiddling that normally put people off this sort of thing.

The 5 best games for iPhone and iPad this week – September 7th

Friday has arrived, and with it the blessed relief of it almost being the weekend. It’s pretty exciting isn’t it? We’ve got two days off to drink away all the terrible memories of the week. Or to go out and do things that we enjoy doing with the people that we love. Y’know, if that’s the sort of thing that you’re into or whatever.

As you’re probably aware by now, Friday is when we round up all of the good games that have come out this week on the App Store. There are some pretty shiny releases this week, so picking five was actually pretty tough. I did it though, because it’s what I do. It is what I do.

You can click on the emboldened names of the games below to download them. And if you think anything else that should have been included on the list, then feel free to make your own suggestions in the comments at the bottom of the article. It’d be nice, you know, just to have someone to talk to.

Atomine

A slick twin stick shooter with a thick and engaging art style that will keep you playing for a good long while. Procedurally generated levels filled with waves of angry red enemies will keep you entertained, and the challenge level amps up as different kinds of bad guys try and stop your progress.

Don’t Eat Us

A strange mix of an auto-runner and a tapper. Yo…

The 5 best games for iPhone and iPad this week – August 18th

Well, would you look at that. We’ve all made it to Friday. I’m proud of us. Especially you. Yeah, that’s right, you. You know what I’m talking about. That thing? You’ve done real well this week, and I reckon next week is going to be even better for you.

But if you want a mobile video game to set up next week for you, which one should you choose? Well, I say, why choose one when you can choose five? These five in fact. The five best games that came out on the App Store this week.

You can click on the emboldened names of the games below to grab them from the App Store. And if you think I’ve missed anything, make sure you stick your own suggestions in the comments at the bottom of the article. I’ll definitely read them.

Meshi Quest: Five-star Kitchen

A game about serving sushi. Well, that’s what it’s ostensibly about. It’s actually about getting really, really stressed and concerned and then messing everything up and ruining your fledgling restaurant empire. It’s a cooking-sim from Square Enix, and it’s actually really, really good.
